The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed to see such a sport
While the dish ran away with the spoon!
Tonight was SUPER MOON NIGHT!!!
Yep. That's right. Super Moon Night.
What does that mean? RUN!!!!!! OMG!!!! We're all gonna die!!!!
Nah, it means the moon was only 221,802 miles away from Earth. Normally it's only 238,855 miles away on a normal day. That's 17,053 miles closer! That's like running around the equator just twice.
It didn't look very special when I took a peek and a couple of pics of it around 8:00pm CST. Yeah, it was purty. But it wasn't very "super."
And it DEFINITELY wasn't very special at 10:30pm CST. It looked pretty normal to me. Yeah...it was a ALOT brighter and had a sweet halo around it. But it wasn't "special." If anything...it looks SMALLER!
Don't worry if you missed it tonight. It will happen again. Next one is June 23, 2013. There are several other ones throughout the year. Here's a schedule and
more information about super moons.
If you're not Texan and prefer your moons smaller, just wait until May 19. The moon will be 252,555 miles further away!! OMG! We're all going to die!!!!!!!!!
The "super" moon obviously had an effect on the animals. Raccoons were tormenting the Yellow Crested Night Herons who are nesting in my trees. From about 11:00pm to almost 1:00am, the herons have been screaming at the midnight nest raiders looking for a bedtime snack. Damn raccoons. Damn old neighbor, too.
Shoot for the moon - if you miss you'll end up in the stars.
