Lazy, Lazy Day.

'nough said.
I'm too lazy to say anything else. It's a lazy, lazy Summer day.
Too hot to do anything.
Too lazy to do anything.
It's just toooooooooooo.... yeah.

My crepe myrtles aren't lazy. They're busy blooming. I'm gonna sit back and watch them work at being gorgeous.

On the other hand...my potatoes are lazy. They were soooooooooo lazy they didn't sprout a SINGLE spud. Damn couch potatoes!!!!! USELESS!!!

OK....back to being lazy again. I've exerted too much energy typing this post. :P

Just Add Water

I finally finished my 40-foot flowerbed this morning. Before, I had just made the bed and only planted a couple of daylilies. NOW...it is full of daylilies. Just gotta add water. The bed continues past the faucet and hose in the distance. Can't wait for them to grow and fill up the bed. It will be really nice to pull into the driveway with all the daylilies in full bloom next year.

While I was sweating this morning, the family of hawks came back for a visit. Seems they were on a hunting trip. The kids' voices hadn't changed yet...very high pitched squeals. They were flying up and down the street and back to their old nest...squawking the whole time. Mom just sat and watched with a discerning eye. Next thing I heard was this TERRIBLE squawk and squeals. It seems one of the kids decided to take on a daddy Yellow Crested Night Heron that was proctecting his kids and nest. The hawk lost and flew back to momma. LOL

At 9:00 a.m. I decided it was too damn hot to do anything else outside.

Sitting in the Shade...

Even though Rudyard Kipling said gardens are not made by sitting in the shade, I think prefer the shade after this weekend. I think my fingernails are permanently stained. I've got blisters...was attacked by a couple of rose bushes...and I can't stand straight. One shining moment is that I was NEVER bit by an insect -- wasp, ant or skeeter. And granted, it does look nice.

This morning I got up and redid another flowerbed in the front yard. It had been neglected. I'm sure the neighbors are happy. In fact, one of my neighbors came over to see what had gotten into me...all this yard work this weekend. He said he almost didn't recognize the place when he got up this morning. smart ass. Of course he has an impeccable yard. He was nice enough to help me dig out some plants and gave me a few pointers since I was "new" to this work. LOL

I planted some agapanthas, river irises and moss roses around my neglected roses. Then I gave them a good layer of black mulch. The black mulch makes everything pop and look so fresh.

After all the work this morning, I collapsed in the shade and solitude of my backyard. It was wonderful listening to the sounds of the day. Herons fussing; hawks squawking; squirrel dozing on the fence; neighbor shaving body hair. WHAT?! Rewind. Neighbor shaving body hair?!?! If I could have gotten a picture I would have. I'm sitting there, minding my own business and hear the faint buzz of clippers...like dog clippers. OK...He's giving his dogs a trim. But wait...there's movement on the otherside of our fence...I can see there's someone standing there with no shirt on. HUH?! Oh good! it's NOT my neighbor but his step son. But what is he doing?? buzzzzzz buzzzzzzzzzz I see his arm moving up and down on his chest and stomach between the boards of the fence. GROSSSSSSSS!!! He's shaving his body hair!!! X.O.M.G!!! I would have sent him outside, too!! ROFLMAO!!! It was all I could do to keep from busting a gut and falling out of my chair laughing.

Peace returned to my backyard.

Sense of Accomplishment

Not sure what's going on this weekend. I've been up at the crack of dawn...AND working in the yard. Hell must be freezing over!!

I have this dirt between the side of my house and the driveway. I got a wild hair a couple of weeks ago and had the yardman tear it all up and pull out all the elephant ears and airplane plants that had been growing there since I bought the house 11 years ago. It was easy to maintain. Heck, I didn't even water it! They wouldn't die!! So why did I mess up a good thing?

I prepared the bed today...mixed in some new potting soil, added some edging and covered it with black mulch. I even planted a couple of miniature yellow daylilies I got for my birthday. I think I need a few more plants. LOL  This bed gets full afternoon sun. It's not a wide bed...maybe a 1.5 feet at the widest...but it's 40 feet long!

Only thing left to do is get a bag of pea gravel for under the faucet and hose.

What shall I do tomorrow? Rest??? definitely!!

Weekend Wild Hairs

After feeling bad the last couple of days, I was up bright and early this morning...like BEFORE 7am. ugh. WHY!?  So...I got a wild hair and decided to get up and moving and run a few errands. By 10am I had...

had a typical Saturday morning holiday breakfast at Whataburger...sausage, egg and cheese taquito with ice, cold orange juice.

filled up with gas...LOVED getting 10 cents off!!

got the car washed...

and went to the nursery...where I found out I really wish I had a truck or SUV!! yes, the trunk was full, too!!!

The nursery had LOTS of pretty flowers for me to kill. I decided to let them live...at the nursery...since I'm already becoming a serial killer at home.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!!
Stay safe!!!
